Tiger's Blood

This fly has been a very effective pattern since it's creation, especially in deeper water on bright days and in the evening when daylight is decreasing. It has worked on all of our local waters and in the Canadian lakes we fish. It gave a very successful ending to a day of fishing Tiger Trout at Twin Lake in Manitoba, Canada in the spring of 2006.

List of Materials:

1. Hook = Size 4-12, 3X or 4X long (ABI 172 or ABI 222)

2.Tail = Black marabou (2 pieces of Red Krystal Flash on each side helps add some flash to the fly).

3. Body = Tiger's Blood New Age Chenille

4. Rib = Red Ultra Wire

5. Black Hackle

Step 1. Wrap hook shank and tie in tail. Trim the tail to body length. (If you are going to use Krystal Flash in the tail it should be tied in at this point and trimmed to match the tail length.)
Step 2. Tie in the Red Ultra Wire and the Chenille.
Step 3. Wind the chenille forward to form the body and tie off. Tie in a good grade of saddle hackle.
Step 4. Wind the hackle back to the tail and secure it with one wrap of wire. (Be sure to wrap 3-4 turns of hackle at the front of the fly to create a pusher.) Wind the wire over the hackle using 4-5 wraps to reach the front of the fly.
Step 5. Tie off the wire and clip it. Whip finish the head.
