Welcome to The Fly Desk

Updated 3/11/2008

The Fly Desk has been the source for stillwater fly fishing supplies for over 19 years. With more and more rivers and streams being placed off limit to fishing, either through private posting or corporate leasing, stillwater fishing is fast becoming the most popular way to flyfish. Our newly redesigned site will make it easier than ever to get what you need for stillwater fishing. If this is your first time to The Fly Desk, Welcome. Please browse the hundreds of items we stock to make your fishing experience more enjoyable.

If you are a returning visitor, thanks for coming back. We hope our new look will make your visit better than ever. Whether you're a first time visitor or an old friend, we would really like your comments about the new site. Let us know what you like and what you don't - any suggestions for improvement. Just drop us a line at info@flydesk.com

We have just added a new section that we will be adding to each month. Instructions for tying what we classify as "World Famous" fly patterns. A few by us and many by others that we have tested and proven effective throughout the years. Step by step instructions with photos will guide you through the tying process. You can click on the button at the top (don't let the name change to Photo Gallery fool you, it is the link to the instruction menu page) or on the word instructions in this paragraph. We hope to bring you instructions for new patterns as well as old reliable ones that are working well. If you have a "Killer" pattern you would like us to try and then include, send us one and we will give it a try. Maybe it will be good enough to make it into our next book.

We are now having a series of fly rods being built for The Fly Desk by a company in England. These are top of the line in quality and performance. We expect to be getting some shipped to us in April, 2008. See the rod section for details.

WE are extremely happy to be carrying the Dave Scadden line of pontoon boats. There are very well made boats and a model is made to fit every fishing condition or need. They even include models that will carry three people. One can row and the other two can fish just like a regular float boat. Their bladderless pontoons are very lightweight and durable. I am fishing out of the Madison River model and couldn't be happier. Check out their site by clicking on on "Dave Scadden" here or above. We list three of their boats here on the site but can get any of their models. Before buying elsewhere, call and see if we have any show specials going on.

We now carry a GREAT strike indicator that will slide down your line when the hook is set on a fish so it is not in the way of reeling in all the line you have out. Check them out in our Fishing Accessories section.

We have received our expected order of the leader link rings and are delighted with the quality. These are a link between the leader and tippet and are very useful for extending the life of your leaders. Simply attach one at the end of your leader and then tie a length of tippet to it. When your tippet gets too short simply cut the remaining piece off the link and attach a new length of tippet to the link. You will never have to change your leader again just because it has gotten too short. You will find these listed in the Fishing Accessories section also. They are a fast seller but we are not having any trouble keeping them in stock.

Visit the gallery and see the success our customers have had using our patterns. Page 4 includes some of the fish caught during the June 2006 trip to Canada. If you have a picture of your "trophy" and you would like to see it in the gallery, just e-mail the picture or send one that we can scan. Any pictures mailed will be returned after scanning.

Our next trip to Manitoba, Canada is tentatively planned for the second week of June 2008. We will actually be leaving Salt Lake City on June 5th. If you are interested in going with us or meeting us there, drop us a line and we'll get the details to you as they are firmed up. If you and a couple of buddies want to tag along, you're welcome. If you are interested e-mail me.

For up to date on fishing Manitoba, Clicking on Sheedy's Pages will take you to his site. We also have his two books available. Both are a valuable addition to any stillwater fisher's library.

Dennis
